IRRI and Philippine Agriculture Department announce International Rice Congress 2023’s cross-continental keynote speakers line up

An assembly of cross-continental experts in rice science and technology is set to lead the programs and discussions in the upcoming International Rice Congress 2023 (IRC 2023).

These resource persons representing the academia, private companies, and research institutions in countries across Asia, Africa, as well as the United States are setting the tone at this year’s IRC to be held at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) in Manila, Philippines on 16-19 October.

An assembly of cross-continental experts in rice science and technology is set to lead the programs and discussions in the upcoming International Rice Congress 2023 (IRC 2023).

The keynote speakers and presenters include epigenetics expert Dr. Sally Mackenzie, Director of the Plant Institute; Huck Chair of Functional Genomics; Professor of Biology and of Plant Science at the Pennsylvania State University, Dr. Michael Graham, Head of R&D Breeding at Bayer Crop Science, the event’s platinum sponsor, IRC Silver Sponsor Regrow Ag Chief Strategy Officer William Salas, and Dr. Yvonne Pinto, Director Bioeconomy AgBio at Eagle Genomics Ltd., among other high-level speakers from the research and private sectors.

As part of its cooperation with the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), the DLG (German Agricultural Society) will support this year’s International Rice Congress (IRC 2023), 16-19 October, in Manila, Philippines. IRC 2023 is the largest gathering of the stakeholders of rice-based food systems worldwide. World's largest rice congress to be held in October

To prepare for the event that is held once every four years, the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) met with Vietnam Agriculture News on June 6 to explore corporate publishing media.

This is the sixth edition of the International Rice Congress, which is slated to take place on October 16-19. It is also the first time that the world's largest rice event will be held in the Philippines, where IRRI headquarters is located.

The annual gathering of global rice stakeholders, to be held at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) on Oct 16-19, is expected to help advance the domestic sector amid the many challenges it is facing, according to an official of the Department of Agriculture (DA).

“At the International Rice Congress (IRC) 2023, we can learn about recent advancements in genetic, digital and nature-based solutions, offering valuable insights to address the various challenges faced by the rice industry in the Philippines,” said Agriculture Undersecretary Leocadio Sebastian in a statement released by the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI).

The Department of Agriculture (DA) has pledged support in co-organizing the largest gathering of the stakeholders of rice-based food systems worldwide in the Philippines from October 16 to 19, 2023 with the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI).

“Rice is one of the priority areas of the Philippine government to achieve food self-sufficiency and improve the lives of Filipino farmers,” DA Undersecretary for Rice Industry Development, Leocadio Sebastian said on Monday.

 

 

Rice Congress to tackle emerging threats to productivity

The upcoming 6th International Rice Congress (IRC), to be hosted by the Philippines for the first time, will focus on providing holistic science-based solutions to the combined impacts of climate extremes, looming rice crisis, conflict, and economic shocks to the rice value chain.

The quadrennial IRC will be held at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) in Pasay City on Oct. 16 to 19. It is co-organized by the Department of Agriculture (DA).
